I have
always loved the water. I spent my summers on Nantucket Island often
playing on the beach and rolling in the waves. Last year, after two
years of college in the Northeast, I decided to take some time off and
do the things I have always wanted to do. I dedicated some time to cooking,
to art, and to traveling. Four months ago, my travels brought me to
Oahu to work with a marine conservation group. As an ocean lover, it
just seemed to fit. I had only planned to be down here for two months,
but after only three weeks, I found myself in love and as happy as I
ever have been. So, I decided that this island would be my home a little
longer. I got involved with Deep Ecology only two days after my arrival
on the island by helping them with a turtle rescue. Soon after the rescue,
I did my open water certification through them and then became a staff
member. I am continuing my diving education and will, hopefully be going
back to college in the fall of 2002. Until then, I plan to travel more
and spend as much time in the water as possible. |
