While in the billiard hall we met a dozen or more people and among them was a relative of the man pictured above. He handed me his phone and on the other end I had a man who thanked me profusely for my solidarity with the Palestinian people. As I talked to him I knew nothing of his story but I said thank you brother and wished him the best and restated my goal for a free Palestine as well.

As it turns out this man was convicted of attempted murder for firing on settlers who occupied a much hated settlement (well they are all hated really). He is now serving forty years in an Israeli prison. You have to consider that the settlers are allowed to prance around with weapons such as the M-16 being held in the picture. If a Palestinian did that he/she would be shot on site. Add to that the fact that many of these settlers are among the most rabidly anti-Arab fanatics you will ever meet and you can see why they are targeted.

Anyway, for the most part from the Palestinian perspective any and all settlers are as good as soldiers and therefore legitimate targets.
