East Jerusalem, Damascus Gate.

Being my first time in Palestine I was in a mixed state of joy and concern. I went knowing I could have serious problems with the powers that be and now it was time to confront those possibilities. Being in East Jerusalem was more like being a tourist however and I wanted to reach the hot spots to see for myself the best and worst of the occupation. Nablus was the hottest spot at the time with two killed in the latest Israeli incursion into Balata Refugee camp; one of the victims/martyrs was a five year old boy. We would reach Balata in two days.

But first we were off to meet a contact in Der Balut who might help us with accommodations and travel.
