This road is named after Israel's former Tourism Minister Rehavim Ze'evi who was ultimately assassinated by a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. This Israeli "Gandi" was an ultra right wing fanatic who advocated the expulsion of all Palestinians from the the Gaza Strip and the West Bank; although he was vague as to how to accomplish this. Needless to say he was not popular with the Palestinian people.
