Marwan Barghouti calls for attacks from Gaza to stop in exchange for an
end to Israeli occupation
Tuesday 20th April, 2004
Marwan Barghouti, the Tanzim leader currently held in an Israeli jail, has
unknowingly pre-empted the announcement of P10K by calling for an end to
Palestinian attacks from Gaza in exchange for a full Israeli withdrawal.
P10K fully supports his position, and believes that the 3,530 contingent
of the P10K Force that would mobilize to Gaza would hasten the Israeli
withdrawal, and help to that guarantee the IOF is unable to continue it’s
offensive operations. In addition to the Barghouti document referring to
Gaza, P10K hopes that calls for an end to attacks from the West Bank will
also be made, but only on the condition that 6,470 western citizens - the
other contingent of the P10K Force – mobilize there. |

However, international law calls for an end to the illegal occupation in
both Gaza and the West Bank, and whilst the withdrawal of 7,000 setters
and the IOF from Gaza would be welcomed, the 400,000 settlers and IOF in
the West Bank must also be compelled to leave.
Further conditions attached to the end to violence include the nature of
sovereignty over the Gaza Strip, and the release from prison of all Gaza
residents. P10K supports the application of international law, and
therefore believes that people have the right to self-determination and
not to be imprisoned without just cause. But unlike many previous “peace
plans” emanating from the west, P10K has no intention of commenting or
interfering with the internal politics in Gaza, for example as to the
relationship between different factions such as Fatah and Hamas.

conjunction with a small support team. Wherever possible, updates are
based on a mixture of Palestinian and Israeli sources, but due to language
and translation difficulties, this is not always possible. If there is a
Palestinian / Arab source (in English or Arabic) relating to this story,
